Why?
Professionals and managers of SMEs know that it is necessary to modernise and improve business processes in order to increase profits and make the business more successful. IT development can be an effective tool to support this. Unfortunately, the majority of Hungarian businesses are still lagging behind Western businesses in terms of their approach and use of IT applications.
To take the initial steps, there is usually no need for a team of consultants or a large and expensive pool of experts. An in-house IT specialist is also very difficult and/or slow to pay for itself. Nor is it always necessary to have endless consultations or expensive surveys to make IT-related decisions or to work around problems of this nature. In many cases the professional will recommend a specific tool that he knows well.
Outsourced or in-house – this is the dilemma that many managers face. Cheap work is often associated with an in-house worker, and quality work with an outsourcer. Often in practice, I think this can get mixed up.
I think that there are situations where it makes sense to outsource the implementation of small or large IT projects, but it can also be worthwhile to have someone involved in the assessment or even the preparation, who can support us impartially as an external contractor. Sometimes even an hour or two of discussion with an impartial expert is very useful.
Doing what?
Let’s look at some specific cases where I have helped my clients directly or indirectly through my partners.
- Are you looking for a supplier to develop a website or web application, or have already received a bid or proposal, but you don’t want to put a lot of effort into looking incompetent and possibly making the wrong decision? In many cases, I will certainly not be the person to do the job (e.g. develop the website), but I can help you evaluate the offer, or recommend a fair and suitable supplier.
- Do you think that an existing business process or situation is sub-optimal, could IT tools be used to speed it up in some way, to automate elements of it?
- Do you need to use English or German language software or IT services for your team, but would you like to use this with staff who only speak Hungarian?
- Are you looking for an IT supplier or need help choosing one?
- Do you want to fix, save or maybe increase the general IT knowledge within your company, to understand and learn the latest principles, methodologies, technologies, shortcuts – at a basic level?
- Do you want to achieve higher efficiency with interconnected software instead of isolated systems, separate solutions? Are you thinking about integrated solutions?
- Have an operational or system implementation question, problem, want to work around a problem?
- Do you believe that you do not need IT development in the strictest sense of the word, i.e. you do not need a new software solution, an existing (out-of-the-box) or no-code tool can be enough?
- Do you want to increase data security, auditability?
- IT security is important to you, but you don’t know where to even start to implement/learn the methodologies?
- Do you need to implement an IT asset register, want to customise it?
- Do you need to implement project and task management tools, refine your knowledge? ClickUp, Asana, Trello, Jira, Notion just to name a few that I have had the pleasure to use. Some of them I’m not familiar with at user level, I can help you with integration. It’s not the tool that makes the person, it’s the system implemented using the tool that helps them. It almost doesn’t matter what system you use, as long as you can achieve the goal effectively.
- You have been given technical material, specifications, and you want to review them on a “four eyes” basis, but you don’t have the necessary experience and expertise in-house?
How?
Many people believe that “He who knows everything knows nothing.“
I agree… I have many years of experience as a software developer and an extensive network of contacts (suppliers, partners). Unfortunately, I can NOT offer a solution for every problem, not even in the IT field! However, I do have a confident general IT expertise and interest, which could be very useful for you.. (Of course, I do have some very specific knowledge in some IT areas, much of which is stuck in a corporate environment. From there, I use what I know where I can and try to pass it on to the SME environment.. Here is my LinkedIn profile.)
I always try to be clear, to say what needs to be said, rather than the rhetoric that is unfortunately common in the industry. I explain what solutions are possible to a problem, or what I think is usual/recommended to do and why.
I also bring the principle of transparency and traceability from a corporate environment.
By listening and asking questions, I help you to look at a problem from a new perspective.
For long term IT coaching, if your goal is longer term development and learning, the focus is on next steps, keeping your focus and learning as much as possible through feedback.
Our work together is based on a well-defined plan – developed in advance over a period of 3-6-12 months – with a project approach. We have a common interest in making the project a success. Success can mean a more confident IT knowledge, the successful launch/management of an organisational IT project or even a proper re-engineering of a business process, all depending on the needs.
Who?
I like to develop with entrepreneurs who love to learn and want to learn, who want to deepen their IT knowledge, understand an IT problem in more depth and solve it effectively, or build their business on new foundations by focusing on the supporting role of IT within their organisation.
You have a specific goal, you feel that IT is something you would like to understand a little about, but you have no idea where to start.
She is a complete beginner in an IT subject but would like to learn from a professional.
You want to solve an IT problem or are involved in an IT-related project.
The details
Methodology
We talk in a flexible way. I can support you as a developer, project manager, IT manager, consultant or mentor, depending on what best serves your goals. I believe transparency and learning rooted in data are essential; without them, the conversation would be a waste of time.
Location
Online, video call – rarely voice call – supported by email communication. Other forms of communication – Whatsapp, Viber, etc. – are not excluded.
Fees
For short term – one or two sessions – consultation, the remuneration is fixed – on the contact form.
In our long-term cooperation, the remuneration will be individually negotiated. The goal and the possibilities will determine in the end how much it will cost.
Duration
For long-term cooperation, we tailor the terms depending on the task. I undertake projects for a minimum of 3 months. In addition to 4 one-hour face-to-face meetings per month – online is recommended – ongoing written communication is part of our work together.
Best Regards,
István
